Frequently Asked Questions:

Sewer inspection cameras, also known as drain inspection cameras, are special cameras attached to flexible cables for insertion into drain pipes. Tiny lenses capture video footage deep inside hard-to-reach spaces, highlighting cracks and clogs that might otherwise go unseen.

If a sewer pipe is clogged, bellied, cracked, crushed, or completely disconnected, a video camera inspection will allow your plumber to quickly and accurately detect the issue so that they can get to work on the right solution.

You can rent a drain camera from a specialty plumbing store, however, the rent fee will likely exceed the cost of hiring a plumber. Not to mention potential issues such as camera breaking, or getting stuck, in which case you could be responsible for damages. Drain cameras cost between $10,000 and $35,000.

This depends on how expentice the inspection is and if you have easy access points into the drain pipe (drain cleanouts). It could take as little as 1hr, or as long as 4 hours if you require a thorough inspection of all of your drain lines.

Drain camera service ranges from $300 all the way up to $1,000 or more. The cost depends on the type of property, drain cleanouts, and type of inspection you need. We provide free consultations and a rough quote before any work is done. Give us a call to find out the cost for your particular situation.

There are two reasons Drain Camera Inspection service can seem expensive. First, the cost of equipment and potential damages. A good quality camera may cost up to $35,000. If it gets stuck in the pipes due to roots or collapse in the pipe the plumbing company has to repair or replace it. Secondly, plumbing industry rates are used for cost estimates and these range from $100/hr to $175/hr, depending on the skill, licensing, and experience of the plumber that operates the camera. Taking the above into consideration, a $1,000 bill for a full house, 4+ hr camera inspection is not unreasonable.

Camera inspections catch problems early, helping you avoid expensive repairs.

Look for frequent blockages or backups, slow draining sinks or bathtubs, bad smells from the drains, and unexplained wet spots in your yard.

A CCTV pipe inspection uses a flexible, waterproof camera with high-definition imaging and LED lights.

Yes, it can find clogs from debris, grease, foreign objects, cracks, misaligned pipes, and tree root intrusions.

Check for valid licenses and certifications to ensure professionals meet industry standards.

Factors include the length and complexity of the pipe system, accessibility of pipes, condition of the plumbing system, and the service provider.

As a home owner sewage backup in your basement is a stressful mess! Naz and his team saved me and my basement! I’m so grateful for their efficient and professional resolution to the situation. The resolution involved digging down 8 feet outside my home in the middle of February to install a main back water valve and clean out the line. Once this work was done a camera scope was sent down to inspect the rest of the pipe. The scope showed an additional problem with the original clay pipes from the 1920’s. The Canadian Rooter team resolved this issue the following day. Working outside, in February, digging down 8 feet to replace the pipe. The city inspector came and the whole job was completed in 2 days. Naz explained the whole process clearly, in advance of the work being started, including reassuring me that I didn’t need to wait till spring to look after the issue. The paper work to apply for the Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program was also completed at the same time. Naz and his crew provided great professional service at a reasonable price, as they stated they would. Who could ask for more? Thank you! S. McNamee, Toronto

Canadian Rooter guys are awesome! Our new house was having problems with drainage, so we tried them. They were able to come to our house right away, and took care of 30 years of grease build up (rodded, cameraed and jetted pipes). Jon was able to diagnose and solve our problem quickly. He is extremely knowledgeable, very professional, and also affordable. Highly recommend!

Just talked to Naz about a drain in the basement that was backing up in the furnace room. He explained everything to me over the phone what they will have to do . After camera inspection they were able to trace the problem and located exact spot where the problem was. Very efficient guys and also cleaned up really well. I never had such quality service in the past. I will use them again in the future.

I had an outside area drain was blocked. Their plumber arrived on schedule. Very professional and considerate of our flooring. He camera-ed the piping to find the blockage. With his plumbing knowledge we found the nearest clean out hidden by flooring. Thanks!

Called Canadian Rooter for an emergency to look after the clogged drain. Nick came very quickly and snaked through the clog routinely, but recommended to do camera inspection the following morning included in the price, to be sure everything is cleaned up properly. Mike came the next morning and did camera inspection and did additional cleaning until the drain pipes were completely clean all through till the street sewer main. He too was very professional and showed to me on the monitor the process and the outcome, so I am sure the work was done to my satisfaction. Throughout the dealing with any of the technicians or the office personnel, they were very professional, polite to deal with and went beyond the regular duty to make sure I felt important to them as a customer and that their record here is justified. Thanks, Canadian Rooter!

The main drain in my home backed up. I called several companies and most were very busy and told me they could not come until the following day. This was horrible news for me because I couldn't use the water in the house until the drain was cleared (or the basement would flood). Canadian Rooter sent a guy (Nick) over within two hours. He cleared the drain. He also sent another fellow (Mike) over the next day to camera the drain so that we would know what the cause was and could properly rectify the problem. Both guys gave me their cell numbers in case I needed to contact them directly and they called me to follow-up the following day. The Service was excellent. I will always call them when I have a problem.

AMAZING service & results! We had a sewer backup, the city wouldn't help without a 'proper access pt' and a previous plumber who cracked our toilet tank. Mike came out to investigate w/ camera, snaked the drains, helped us understand our options, talked w/ the city on our behalf, had the cleanout w/ back-water valve installed the next day & went out of his way to get us a new toilet (at cost) & even installed it for us FREE when the other guy wouldn't even come back to look. We have already recommended Mike & Canadian Rooter to friends & family. This company really came through for us!

I am pleased my son called him. Drain was plugged in the furnace room. This drain is connected with all the washrooms and kitchen and laundry. Last year he came also for the same problem but this year he was more satisfied. He checked the drain pipe with heavy duty snake and the camera. This year Nazar is more satisfied. Precaution: dishes must be washed with hot water.

Prompt, helpful, responsive service. The technician that was dispatched, Mike, is fantastic. He put a camera inside the pipe and was able to make correct diagnose of an old clay pipe. His crew installed back flow valve and we now have peace of mind. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Mike has come to our house in a very short notice and delivered an excellent service by first showing us what the problem was and then resolving it by unclogging the big pipes that goes out to the main sewer by using the camera and the big motorized snake. I would highly recommend Mike and Canadian Rooter to anybody.

My colleague at work recommended this company to me. My work schedule only allows me to have contractors come by on the weekends, and Naz was able to come see me on Saturday afternoon. He cleared a small back up we had and did a camera inspection. Turns out our old house has some old pipes and lots of roots... we are hoping that we will not have any major issues anytime soon, since we are booked to do the drain replacements for November.
